Balkan virtuosity meets nordic melancholy

Genres: Balkan folk / Gypsy jazz / Scandinavian folk

Almir Mešković and Daniel Lazar have spent years building a musical language where Balkan tradition, Nordic atmosphere and contemporary virtuosity meet in seamless dialogue. Originally from Bosnia and Serbia respectively, the duo draws from the rich musical crossroads of the Balkans — where Roma music, classical traditions, folk melodies and improvisation have long intertwined.

After meeting in Norway while studying at the Norwegian Academy of Music, the two musicians developed a distinctive sound centered around the expressive interplay between accordion and violin. Their music moves effortlessly between explosive rhythms, lyrical melancholy and intricate improvisation, balancing technical brilliance with deep emotional warmth.

Rooted in both folk and classical traditions, Almir & Daniel create performances full of movement, spontaneity and storytelling. Whether drawing on Balkan dance rhythms, Scandinavian folk influences or chamber music-like intimacy, the duo constantly searches for new ways of connecting traditions across borders.

Their acclaimed debut album Roots established them as one of the most exciting Nordic-Balkan crossover projects of recent years, earning recognition from international world music critics and radio stations across Europe.

At Tromsø World 2026, Almir & Daniel bring a concert filled with virtuosity, joy and emotional depth — music where every note feels alive.
